Problem with laptop after adding a new battery and RAM

I have a 15 inch HP laptop.
It's about 2.5 years old and the battery began to die on me.
So, I bought a new one from amazon and added 8GB of RAM while it was open.

The battery lasts several hours when it is unplugged, and it processes much faster. Great!

But, sometimes the screen locks up. I can't move the cursor.
I have tried hitting function/insert and that works, but then a blue highlight expands over the page. If I move the page up and down it highlights the entire page.

If I try using control / alt /delete, it returns to normal after I x out of it.

But then the problem randomly returns later.

It has to be something simple I am overlooking.

Any suggestions?

I took it to Best Buy and they ran a diagnostics test and checked for malware.
They replaced the RAM I had removed and said it was not the problem.

Final Conclusion.....they said there was a problem with the touchpad and they think I may have tightened the screws down too much and bowed the housing and the touchpad.

After they checked it out and reassembled it.....properly......no more problems.

Thanks for all the comments.

@DallasCowboysFan Well I never haha but hey these things happen sometimes you fiddle around with a few too many things while you under the hood and then it's nearly impossible to figure out what's causing the conflict but the main thing is you did figure it out in the end and glad to hear it's all solved now x
