I have been using a SATA external drive for the past 5 years with an old hard drive from old desktop like from 7 years ago. It just stopped working.

I just ordered this:

I think the problem is with the power adapter on the old unit... unless the drive itself has suddenly gone bad.

plug another drive in test the dock
get a voltmeter and check the power supply
put your hand on the drive.. is it hot .. does it click.. if it clicks its dead.
and buy a back up dock they are not that much

@markansas
Don't have another drive
I can see the power pack is on and working - the unit has an internal fan
The drive is not hot because of the fan. It doesn't click.
I already bought a new dock; it is due to arrive today.
@MarkPaul ok new dock is a good thing and a backup drive is also a great thing.. below in this post is a addy for data recovery software if needed. mark
you should also feel it spin up when you start the dock . put your hand on it
