I have been using a SATA external drive for the past 5 years with an old hard drive from old desktop like from 7 years ago. It just stopped working.

I just ordered this:

I think the problem is with the power adapter on the old unit... unless the drive itself has suddenly gone bad.

As long as you made a backup of the important stuff on the Drive

@Messi Well, the drive was the back-up. And, I didn't make a back-up of the back-up, but I did age off older files from my laptop thinking I had a back-up. So, you see the potential dilemma if it's the external drive that actually has gone bad.

Hopefully, it is just that power source problem and the new SATA drive will do the trick. If not, my entire collection of material going back 5 years is literally gone forever. FOREVER! Damn dude.
@MarkPaul Sorry to hear that. But what I do is back up to google Drive for free. Google give 32 GB for free with each email you have. I had 10 Gmails and it was literally free to back up all I needed.

@Messi Yeah... that's a good going forward strategy.
@MarkPaul Check it out . Cloud storage is very safe and very easy to access. Physical Drives are expensive. I purchased a 256 GB USB stick on Amazon for 20 euro which is another good idea

@Messi Yeah, I have the sticks, but the external drive worked like a champ... until it didn't. Anyway, I'll know tomorrow if it works or life as we know it ends completely.
@MarkPaul maybe it will come back to life again..best of luck with that
