I have been using a SATA external drive for the past 5 years with an old hard drive from old desktop like from 7 years ago. It just stopped working.

I just ordered this:

I think the problem is with the power adapter on the old unit... unless the drive itself has suddenly gone bad.

I like to build a new PC about every five years. Everything man-made has a lifespan. Computers need maintenance too just like our vehicles in order to work properly.

@TrumpIsFinallyGone I suppose. If it's just the power pack, I will consider myself fortunate for the trouble. If the hard drive actually failed, I'm out of a lot of archived documents that I took for granted, not to mention a new "contraption" I didn't need. Hopefully, this new one will work. It has some cool lighting effect, so I guess I will have to console myself with that if the hard drive still doesn't work.

@MarkPaul Good luck!
@MarkPaul if the drive spins you may not have lost every thing. use
and make sure you have a empty drive to go to.. it takes a long time sometimes
