Computers... who'd have 'em?
Well, can you not finish whatever you are doing on it, that bit earlier?
'
One department at work years back, had a small, internal network of Sun Microsystems PCs connected to their own server, to create a far more powerful system for that group's purposes than most conventional computers of the time. (Probably MS WINs 3 to 5, and NT, era.)
This was partly by sheer grunt and partly by the Sun OS being command-line based, with a display probably nearer the original - IBM? - windows concept. So it was quite hard to use even for simple tasks; but mercifully lacked the surplus gee-gaws Microsoft thinks we need. Think of a new-improved, and much more powerful, version of MS-DOS.
It took something like five minutes to start, displaying screen-full after screen-full of arcane computerese as it did so. (MS WIN probably uses equivalent routines, but nowadays much more rapidly, and not displayed.)
That didn't matter first thing in the morning; but it behaved similarly when closed down. That is much more serious at the end of the day, if you needed or just wanted a quick get-away, flexi-time or not!
