Guard kitty

My two kitties like to sometimes lounge on the back of the love seat. Not typically this close. They have a good view of the french doors.

The more feisty one will start growling when she sees movement or hears noise out there, haha! It's so cute to me. Grrrawr. 😼🥹

Last thing was a deer strolling by. As I always check.
Do your cats ever do this?

I had a kitty once. She growled and hissed. Defo a 'guard' kitty despite her small size. Went thru the screen door once and chased a big dog up the street. Her name was "Kitty".

@RogueLodyte Ooooh she looks a bit fierce. I like it! 😾
@Magenta I deliberately chose that 'evil kitty' photo to compliment the story and the post. She was a sweetie as long as her apple cart remained upright. Used to sleep on my head. She gave my 120 lb German Shepard a bloody nose when he cornered her in a closet. 🤣
Magenta · F
@RogueLodyte Wow. Quite the little fierce one. 🙀

I’m fairly new to the cat thing. I grew up with dogs. We now have two Maine Coons. They’re almost like small dogs as they’re very friendly and social.

But, I’ve never heard either growl at anything, inside or out.

Magenta · F
@Adogslife Wow, Maine coons can get huge!
Earlier in my life I had dogs. Now I prefer cats.
Adogslife · 61-69, M
@Magenta That’s George. He just turned two. He’s large for sure. That’s normal. He was 22 lbs when I weighed him this week.

He loves when I cut up turkey for him. He’ll stand on the floor and put his front paws on the counter and just watch. So, that’s an idea of size.

When Sheba was alive, 😭, she often sat in front of the door. And yes she growled. Mostly at other cats or an occasional dog...

Yeah, I deeply miss her. 😭
Magenta · F
@DeWayfarer Aaww.. 🥺
AllAboutLaffs · 80-89, M
My cat, Buddy, is usually on my desk in front of the window.

He observes and/or sleeps there.

And he does growl when someone rings the doorbell ... or when he hears fireworks.
AllAboutLaffs · 80-89, M
@Magenta Buddy is an oldie but a goodie

He'll be 17 in April
Magenta · F
@AllAboutLaffs My goodness! He's had a long life. 😌😺
AllAboutLaffs · 80-89, M
@Magenta So far, so good
Lilymoon · F
Yeah they're protecting their territory. I love the little growls. 😸
Magenta · F
@Lilymoon I just don't recall any of my other kitties ever doing that.
Lilymoon · F
@Magenta yeah some do, some don't.
Mine will perk her ears up and stare but no growl.
My cat before that was a growler. 🥲
Magenta · F
@Lilymoon Aaww.. 😌
Interesting animals.
I've never seen any of my past cats growl like a guard cat that I can recall ... I've only seen some of them do things like this clicking / chattering when they see a bird outside the window, like this (not my video) ...

... or to swat at frogs on the window at dusk (don't remember if that cat vocalized or not while doing that, or press their head against the window wanting to snatch an anole just on he other side of the glass. The last one was pretty mellow and not really all that phased by watching squirrels, raccoons, or deer outside a window.

If they were territorial at all, it was only with each other.
Magenta · F
@ThirstenHowl Yes I've seen nearly all of mine do that when seeing a bird.
BrandNewMan · 61-69, M
Our dogs growl or bark at noises .. neighbors, rabbits, squirrels, etc they see through the windows, even at night. Yet .. a decent sized black bear has been in our yard a half dozen times per the cameras .. not one peep. 🙄🤣
Magenta · F
@BrandNewMan Yes I expect it from dogs, but not so much cats.

Funny they don't bark at the bear. 😄
BrandNewMan · 61-69, M
@Magenta My son/DIL's cats do it a bit .. but yeah, we joke about being so well warned about squirrels while the bear has free run of the place
JackDaniels · 46-50, M
No cats but here is my mean guard dog. Not a sound she doesn’t grow at. Lol

Magenta · F
@JackDaniels Aaaww adorable.

I don't recall any of my other kitties ever doing that.
JackDaniels · 46-50, M
@Magenta so are your kitties. They are protecting momma
Mine only growl when they see another kitty outside.
Magenta · F
@MsSwan Understandable. 🐯

When cats gtowl or hiss, it's usually at me.
Degbeme · 70-79, M
No cats here, so I have to do the growling. 🙄
Magenta · F
@Degbeme Here, see if this calms the beast. 🥯 🤭
Degbeme · 70-79, M
