depends on the animal if the shelter will allow you id take him with you to see how him and a cat might react to each other. we have a dog and cat that get along so well i think they think the dog is the cats mom

When I was a child, my parents had adopted a baby dog and a baby cat, at the same time. Those animals loved each other. Our cat put his head into the dogs mouth, just for fun.
Now I have a small dog myself, and two semi-wild cats. Essentially, they ignore each other. The cats live outside and come home only to lick their wounds.
Oh, and welcome to SW!

Munchkins are not a good idea. They have the dwarf gene, which means health problems and expensive vet bills.
Remember that breeders are salespeople. They tend to minimise, or not admit, the disadvantages of their breed.
Do some research. It's the cross-breed moggies who do best. All breeds of cat are highly affectionate if they know you and you treat them well.
Dogs and cats can get along well, especially if they meet as puppy and kitten. Allow up to six week for them to get used to each other.
Look up the experts' advice online.
In YouTubes, Cesar Milan is good on dogs, and Jackson Galaxy on cats.

Sometimes they are best friends. Yet it really depends on the cat. Cats are often loners. Why I get along with my cat really. She only wants me around.

I had a Puggle and she loved cats. Dogs generally do. Cats loving dogs is another story.

Well, they all belong to the same union, so...

Pugs are cute, I think they'll get along fine.

There is no single or easy answer to that question. All animals have their own preferences. If you have a puppy and get a kitten there is a chance they might get along so long as the puppy doesn't scare the crap out of or torment the kitten.
