Well I stand the risk of causing offense to dog lovers by saying what I think. Firstly I have actually met some dogs who appealed to me but not many. I will limit my criticism to a few specific dogs. Also some of these faults are because of the owners and not the dogs.
- My neighbor's dog, a pit bull Terrier. It eats shit, rolls in shit, licks shit and then wants to lick me with that same tongue.
-It barks at anything, everything and nothing at the top of it's voice.
- When someone arrives to visit the dog runs up to them and nuzzles them in the groin with it's nose.
- It is always doing stupid things that end up with it having to be taken to the vet which costs loads of money.
- Last year just before christmas my brother's nephew (8 yrs old) was killed by their neighbor's dog who climbed the fence and mauled the kid in his own yard in front of his mother.
- I think I'll stop now, that's enough. I could continue but I won't.

On the other hand I must just mention a good thing about dogs. Dogs that are properly trained can be used quite efficiently to save Human lives in disaster areas like when people are buried alive by earthquakes etc. So they do have their uses.
Oh and I once worked with a blind man whose guide dog brought him to work and back. So not all dogs suck. They need training.

My dog had no faults. I started brushing his teeth when he was young, and he was allowed to "beg", but he was actually very polite and cute. He would sit quietly and wait until he made eye contact, and then he would sit up on his haunches and raise one paw. His way of saying please.
He also learned to read, after a fashion. He would respond to certain symbols. A brilliant dog, and an absolute pleasure to have as my buddy. When we were hiking, I could point to a track and name critters, until he gave me the sign that I had named the right one. That nose was never wrong.

They are great ...
It's the people that are the horrible ones with them. The shitty foods we feed them. The laziness we create them into being. We demand to be the Masters and we are so fucked up ...
Then the over cross breeding all for our visual amusement of what might be cute or hilarious with the animal ugliness.

Some people actually have a great relationship with their pets. Of course, some people also put in the time and effort to make their pets pleasant to be around.
