my dog used to spend close to 20 hours a day in a crate too small for him

now when he's ready for bed he stands next to me and sighs until i pull the blanket back for him and make sure he has his pillow ready and only once his spot is set up just the way he likes it will he get settled down as close to me as he can physically be
I don't know a whole lot about how dogs communicate or think, actually very little for how much dogs were involved in my life growing up. But I can't help but wonder if this is his way of recognizing that his old days of being put in a tiny cage are past him, and as long as he waits for you and trusts you to finish doing all those intricate things with your arms that humans do (like setting up the bed), he won't have to go through that anymore.

@SinlessOnslaught i hope thats true 🥺
@Frostcloud I have to give myself credit, I do know a LITTLE about dogs. 😜 I think it is true.
Mine would only come under the covers when it was cold out.

@Justafantasy That's so cute. My dog used to sleep in my bed with me and my husband, but we had to teach him to be a little more independant, and sleep somewhere else, because he kept waking us up lol. Now he goes sleeping in the couch in the living room by himself sometimes, and I'm proud of him for that. 😅
@Nightwings at home she'd never come under the covers, it was always warm enough there. She had her spots picked out though

@Justafantasy my little dog sleeps under my blanket with me. my big dog (in my post) ill put a blanket over him if it's really cold sometimes. buy mostly i pull the blanket back because he doesnt like sleeping on top of my duvet. he likes to sleep on my purple blanket that i sleep on

Thank you for rescuing him
Some people don't deserve dogs

@Frostcloud

Glad you did that
Hope she treated her children better then the pup but I'm skeptical

@pdockal i think motherhood is going to he much more difficult than she has expected and i hope it will help her repair her relationship with her mom as she gains a different perspective. we don't talk anymore so i dont know what's going on in her life. but even if she hasn't grown as a person, both her family and the fathers family seemed like an incredible support system luckily for baby!!

So sad. We rescued a dog that went through the same thing. She's never been in a crate again
Frostcloud · F
@nudistsueaz he's a punk when unsupervised and still has to be in his crate (now much bigger) when we're out of the house for his safety. and occasionally he goes in to lay in it to cool off after fetch. but it's his safe space and not his whole world
Shame on those who treated him that way 😡

You’re awesome for giving him a happy ending with love and reassurance

Hugs to you both 🌹 🐾
