What's With Dogs And Shoes?

So my family members always complain that our puppy is obsessed with their shoes. When you leave your shoes she steals them and starts biting them. So today I go outside and there comes the puppy and starts biting my shoes while still on my feet. It was fun at first but she was becoming too rough. I kept spinning in circles trying to get my shoes out of her mouth but she had a tight grip with her teeth 😁. I wanted to continue playing but I couldn't. I didn't wanna run her over with the wheelchair heels😅

That sounds really cute. Puppies have an amazing sense of smell. Their noses are 10,000 to 100,000 times more acute than that of a human. Your shoes, in other words, to your puppy, smell very strongly like YOU! If your puppy is biting them and playing with them, she is bonding with a "toy" in her own mind, that smells like the head of her pack...YOU.

My little cocker poo, (size of a miniature poodle), used to love to bite the sleeves of my bathrobe. I would tease him a bit with my hand inside the sleeve, and then when he actually BIT with his little needle teeth, I could withdraw my hand and just let him bite the sleeve. He thought it was a great game...🤣

@4meAndyou What a cutie 😜. What happened to him

@karysma He passed away years ago. I think he may have had pancreatitis and the ex had him put down because he was in so much pain.
Dogs are ruled by smell. Shoes have concentrated scent. It's just the way things are. Be gentle and give her other things to chew when you take away the shoes, she will catch on.

@karysma Also, scolding after the fact has a different effect on the dog. They understand much better if they are told "NO!" while they are acting out the bad behavior. They don't mentally backtrack in time the same way we do.

@assemblingaknob I will when she's still. She's a very active pup lol. Why do you not have a puppy?
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
@karysma Our house is a health hazard for animals.

@assemblingaknob Awww that's sad. Maybe you should rent your pet at your neighbors' 😄

Shoes have all our smells in them, plus they are conveniently on the floor.
