Is there a chance that a german shepherd thats a puppy can be socialized to get along with a cat ?

I bought my 11 week old german shepherd home a week ago at 10 weeks old and she barks at my cat but never bites or attacks her and the cat just sits there but sometimes swipes at the dog, google said it could take around 3 weeks for the dog to be cool around the cat what do you all think ?

They can work it out. She's young, acceptance will come easy. If you can, get comfortable with the dog in your lap sitting as close as you can to the cat. Every once in a while reach over and give the cat a scratch so the dog can see that the cat holds a position within the pack. After you pet the cat, rub it on the dog around her neck. At first she'll look at you like you're crazy, but she'll catch on.
If she is play bowing in front of the cat, then she has already accepted her and is inviting her to build a relationship the same way most dogs do.

@UnderLockDown alright thanks for your answer that sounds like it'll work

It takes time and it will happen. My friend has a guinea pig, a cat, and a dog who lay together with no problems. Just be patient. The cat will become close with your puppy as it grows. I have dogs who now tolerate the cats indoors. They even cuddle together to sleep.

@PoetryNEmotionThis is so beautiful.
Yeah it'll be fine, just make sure the puppy doesn't play too rough with the cat when they reach that stage. My adult dog befriended a kitten he originally growled at

Dogs can get along great with cats if they are socialized.
A larger dog may play rough with a cat though.
Our cats swipe at my dog all time, if he gets too playful with them.

I have rescued 2 shepherds husky mixes at ~3.5 months old and we were able to socialize them to our cat(s). Some take longer than others. All depends on the cat and the dog as individuals.

@markansas thats how mine are now
@Kobrassky the first two years is teaching them how to act and where to go.. after that it is all autopilot for the dog.. it pays to do a lot of work in the start and slack off as they grow older..

Sure, However, usually, it is about the cat accepting the dog. Cats are very mean to dogs, sometimes.

Very much so, they can be very obedient if you work with them.

Dogs and cats can get on well together 👍
they can be friends. and should be. no problem let them work it out and all will be fine . if the dog lungs tell the dog no and crate it for 15 min and try again.. its time you do your work on the dog.

It’s going to get worse. German shepherds need obedience training. Some are far worse than others.
Absolutely, if they’re socialized together, like you’re doing. My friends’ Husky was raised from a puppy to get along with the household cats. She sees them as her brothers.
