None of my cats have ever liked riding in the car except for the very first cat ive ever had. If that's any indication... i was gicen anti anxiety medication for my cat by the vet for situations like that where i had to take him anywhere. Might look into some of that just to be safe

Get some feliway to spray in the crate/carrier your cat is going to be traveling in. If they aren’t used to a crate, have them stay in it for an hour a day with the feliway. When they’re ok in the crate, move the crate to your car with the feliway and take them with you when you run errands.
Even if your cat doesn’t end up going with you, it’s always useful to have them used to crates and car trips in case of emergencies or vet trips.
Don’t allow food after dinner the night before to help with nausea, and it’ll also be useful if your crate isn’t big enough for a litter box. They will need access to water though. And you can feed small bits of food during the trips. Line the crate with a towel in case of accidents and I’d bring a back up towel too.

@itsok We don't have any problems with food the night before, but we learned the hard way. No wet food the morning of travel days. We haven't had any problems with dry food though. We usually put some out for her along with water. Of course we travel in a motorhome too. That makes it better for her.

@Musicman next time you're up my way pick me and my cat up and we'll head back down south through the i-5 down the oregon coast and california and as far as san diego...it's a beautiful drive😊
@beermeplease I would love to see the Pacific coast. 🙂🙂🙂
You need to put a cat litter box in a even taller box, and make sure both can fit in the back seat well where the feet are.
Expect alot of paniced walking and meowing. It will interfer with the pedals and sit on your lap or head. No food on the trip the first time in case of vomiting.
After a few trips, especially trips NOT to the vet, and the cat will just look out the window, paws on the door, or sit in the rear foot well. In warm weather, leave two windows cracked opened, and a note saying you are only going to be gone a few minutes and the cat is fine.

Just my opinion…
Do you have to take him with you? Might be a lil soon since hes just getting climatized in your home.
Might freak him out and scurry off on you.

@LunarOrbit no I don’t have to take him. My boys can look after him. It was just a fleeting thought and I wanted more information so I could make an informed decision.
LunarOrbit · 56-60, M
@Jenny1234 I understand. I hope whatever you decide works out well. :)

Has Kitty ever worn a harness? It would probably make things much easier, otherwise they get stuck in a carrier.😿 How does he do on car rides?

Take a short 15 minute drive with him and see how he does. Some pets travel well and some so not.
Some actually get sick.
Bring a crate and a toy.Dont feed immediately before drive.

Well... This reminds me of a story about my in-laws..
They were going to visit their relatives down in Limerick and they let their cat out of the car in a random place to go to the toilet...
Poor Sooty was never seen or heard of again
Wtf, does that🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yeahhh
A lot of hotels won't accept cat's. So that's a problem. They like to roam free in the car. They nap a lot too. They sell small disposable litter boxes. Use one of those. They are going to shed a lot on travel day too. Make sure they don't escape when you stop for gas, food or breaks.
