A similar thing happened to me in 2020. Brought one of my cats in for a check up around 1 pm EST and, six hours later, they FINALLY got around to seeing her. Thankfully they were nice enough to make the visit free of charge since my friend and I sat in the parking lot for six hours when it was supposed to be 30 minutes to an hour tops from the time she was taken in (they were doing the whole "we pick up your pets at the car" thing due to it being the heydays of the pandemic).

Hopefully your cat is doing ok and isn't too worried or scared.

I spent most of the day directing parking for Food Bank distribution. It went well, as usual.
