Cats/Water Question

Cat owners, does this seem to be correct, or just a marketing scheme?

I've heard the Cats don't mentally get thirsty and think about drinking water like humans would, and so they can forget to drink enough water, and don't get enough liquids which is why giving them wet food instead of dry food is better, and more like food they'd eat in the wild, which would of course have some blood and stuff in it.

But sounds like Cats are better about remembering when they are can hear the water running and drink more and so water bowls with moving water are supposed to be better for cats...

What's your take?

Cats aren’t inclined to drink as much water, so that is true. Shallow bowls (for food or water) and fountains is best because of whisker stimulation, it can be uncomfortable. I have a water fountain for my cats and I noticed they drink a lot more water from there than a bowl.

@666Maggotz how does "whisker stimulation" play into this?

Like, the fountain makes that better? Or bowl makes it worse? And how? Thanks.
@Viper their whiskers hit the edges of bowls and it irritates them. So they are less inclined to use it.

My brother has a Maine Coon cat

It’s an indoor cat and my brother loves him so much… the kitty has a moving fountain thing
@WaryWitchWandering I had a Maine Coon blend, also an indoor cat. They’re big and lovable, very loyal.

@bijouxbroussard the kitty is super lovable and he is most definitely big
My cat drinks from the sink with a slight trickle of water running most of the day

Just like any animal... they’ll drink when they’re thirsty and it doesn’t matter how it’s delivered or found.

It’s called survival.

I wonder if that might actually be better for them? My cats' water bowls get nasty.
Viper · M
@LordShadowfire I don't know about house water, but in the wild, running water is generally saver of microscopic items than still water.

@Viper I'm just glad we have a well, rather than relying on chlorinated city water. That's nasty stuff.

Your cat needs a daily amount of about 3.5 to 4.5 ounces of water per 5 pounds of their body weight. For instance, if you have a 10-pound cat, they should be drinking between 7 to 9 ounces of water daily. If the cat eats wet food often, you may notice that it doesn't drink as much water.Feb 9, 2021

@SW-User you sure?
Viper · M
@SW-User Apparently deep bowls can bother some Cats by hitting their whiskers and then they drink less water than they should...
