Do you give for the sake of giving or do you expect something back in return from the person you have given to?

I give, because in the past I've used the help of charities and I'm giving back.

I see it this way, I needed them when I was down on my luck, and they saved me. I'm just returning the favor they gave me and let them help someone else

I give for the sake of giving.
Oneofthestormboys · 56-60, M
I actually prefer giving. Anything back is an unexpected bonus tbh.
Ontheroad · M
I give because I care about the person and want them to know it... them knowing this is all I want.
I give because I love to give..
I give, I find it hard to receive.
I'm a giver

Of headaches. 😈

Always reciprocal. I don't expect but it just seems to be the natural flow that the more you give, the more you get 😊
BillyMack · 46-50, M
No reciprocation needed.

Unless I give you money for tacos. Then I actually do want my tacos.
moonlightlullaby · 46-50, F
I give freely without expectations 🤍
@moonlightlullaby yes you do.
I never forget a birthday...

I always give generously....

BUT, a "thank you " every once in a while would be nice to hear......
Munumbis · 46-50, M
More for when people helped me in the past.
Iwillwait · M
I just gave for the sake of giving.
GoFish ·
i give to make people happy not as manipulation for wanting things from them
EldritchFox · 41-45, F
I'm too generous so I'm very careful. I don't need anything in return but I also don't appreciate when people take and take.
Kuronekko · 41-45, F
I like to give a lot. I don't like to feel that its all one sided though. Ill start to feel unappreciated and a little resentful after a while.
AbbeyRhode · F
I don't keep score. If I give something, it's just because I wanted to, and it's enough if the recipient is pleased.
Magenta · F
Give what though? Love? Attention? Other?

I don't expect anything in return when I give gifts or help someone in need.

ETA: I seriously doubt many don't expect anything at all when they give and give with no return, not even "kindness". Some demand 'kindness'. I've witnessed too much.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Have pretty much answered this before recently. Gifts are gifts, and lending is a capitalistic concept in order to gain. The two are not synonymous.

Also any grey area implies deceit.

BTW this is not a bipolar argument either. Simply because the two are that dissimilar.
Bleak · 36-40, F
I don’t expect anything from anyone in return. If I give, I give for the sake of giving.
Musicman · 61-69, M
I give to give. I am never looking for something in return.
anoderod55 · 70-79, M

Don't expect anything in return . Maybe a thank you . Have helped many and been helped by others . ✨
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
I never have any particular expectations, just potential outcomes in my mind and hope it would be a positive one. My reasons for giving might vary depending on who it is and what I am giving to them.
Okay.... Practically.... If I'm doing something or giving something to someone at work or to any relative outside my immediate family, then yes, I expect them to return the favor. Why, coz I don't want people to take it easy and come back the next time with same expectations.

And if I'm giving something to someone in need as a help, donation etc.... Then no.... I don't even let them know that I helped. I try to keep it as anonymous as possible and don't expect anything in return.

@Royricky09 Always appreciate your honesty.
No. That's transactional.
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
If I give it’s without expectations, but I’m always pleasantly surprised to receive.
