I'm all for wild life protection. Yet I do question building a structure just for bats. There are consequences for overtly helping the wildlife.

Have you thought about the droppings and smell? 🤷🏻‍♂

You can help them better by not trimming trees. Or not using their caves.

Yeah we have bats in our Palm trees. There's a timing to even trim the trees because of the bats.

They actually prefer natural protections. Your structure will smell of humans.
@DeWayfarer my property borders preserved open space. It's not for my backyard, I'd put it at the edge of the open fields.

@robingoodfellow I can't say for your area. Yet for decades here we have been told to consult the local ordinances concerning wildlife.

Now there are issues with the local ordinances. They don't always line up with the facts. The issue with bats here is purely when to trim the palm trees. They actually are doing it too early.

Yet again it's an ordinance issue. Please consult with your local wildlife experts. They should know specifically what issues are of concern.

I suspect it's not places for bats to nest. They do nest here in unlikely places here ... Palm trees! 🤷🏻‍♂

Palm trees of course are native to this desert.

I just ordered this for my campsite!

Yes the support of native bat species in a local area does wonders for the ecosystem even in the short term. I think this is a great project!
@Longpatrol and I love to sit outside at dusk and watch them

I was like “Baba Yaga’s house, a silhouette of a horse head… oh, bat condo!”
@Straylight now I'm really tempted to make the legs look like chicken feet

why don't you built it for yourself?!!
@Boeing who knows, maybe eventually it comes down to that

@Boeing I'd miss my fireplace in the winter
