Remembering Lenny

I've had many Doberman Pinschers over the past 25 years this one in particular was very special as he was the pack leader of the nine that were born in my spare bathroom. He was a sweetheart for sure and everybody's best friend.

I remember giving him his first cherry. He took it from me cautiously and then trotted off to his office to investigate this new snack more thoroughly. I didn't think much else of it until he came bouncing back about 30 minutes later, as excited as can be. That got my curiosity going so I went to check and see what he was so excited about in his office.

What I saw on his pillow was nothing less than amazing. It was a shiny clean cherry seed, with not a spec meat left on it except for the little chunk that was still holding on to the stem. He was such a good boy and so gentle with his mouth. I often wondered if maybe he accidentally ate a hornet when he was a pup because he was always so cautious when taking food. He was cautious and precise. He had the Precision of a surgeon with that pterodactyl looking snout full of teeth. He used to peel my Band-Aids off for me , whether I liked it or not. ..

@4meAndyou he really was so sweet and caring. The breed was invented with personal protection in mind. They're really in tune with humans.

This is the only photo this app will pick up. My dog album isnt showing up for some reason..

He sounds like a VERY special little doggie. I love the cherry pit story!
We had a Chow mix like your Lenny back in the late 70's to early 80's. Her doghouse was right under our cherry tree, she'd get on top of it and pick them off one by one, carefully chewing around the stone and then sucking the pulp off clean, her name was Snowy.

@NativePortlander1970 thats awesome! Thanks for sharing. The mental image is warming my heart. The fact that they are such great symbiotic companions for us makes the vast difference in life expectancies So unfair.

I need to get a couple more but I've been dragging my heels because I'm never going to be able to study anyone else's litter to find the personalities that should follow the ones they'll replace.

I know every dog is a good dog. I also know some are better than others. Ive had many dogs in my life, most of them Doberman Pinschers. The last 2 were heads and shoulders above any before them.
@Jayciedubb You are so very welcome :)
