We had the class pet for weekends but then when they died, there was a class stuffed animal. 😅

When I was six and my sister was five we were given rabbits for Easter. They were in a cage behind the garage. One day they vanished. That Sunday we were having dinner at my grandmother's house. I asked if I could have the wishbone. My grandmother said it wasn't chicken, it was rabbit. I got up and went out the backdoor and threw up. They were making me eat my pet!

@hunkalove Man this is sad.

@hunkalove You mean you wasted good food?

Some of the photos from my highschool I just can't post. I was into photography in highschool for two years and everything I took involved other students.

Ironically I was camera shy those two years. 🤭
@DeWayfarer I’d forgotten this picture existed. My father probably took it.

Sweet picture. 😊

The only animals I remember in the schools I attended, were the frogs I plotted to rescue from their sad fate. I'd have been thrilled to foster a rabbit, though, and then get to keep him.

I love this picture!

We had a pet bunny for a while, and I have fond memories.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Never had a rabbit, but many years ago we had a Netherlands Dwarf Hare named Ptolemy.

That's a nice thing for a school to do.

Such a precious memory. I love the idea as it fosters the idea of care, and who else better to teach a child with? But the sweetness of the memory here is much more incredible. Thank you for this share. It's beyond the nostalgia factor, too.

Aw, what a sweet photo. 🙂

I love old photos and don't have to know the subjects to appreciate them. The backstory adds wonderful context. Thank you so much for sharing that with us, Bijou 💓

OMG! That's you? That's awesome. I just wish you were looking this way.
@originnone Yep. I was focused on the wabbit. I think Pop took the pic. 😄

@bijouxbroussard I rarely smile, but I keep putting this up and smiling....

For me as a kid it was a Guinea pig that I took home for the summer (once). I totally forgot about this memory.

Wonderful picture by the way.
MrEagle · 41-45, M
Very cool. We got to keep some classroom pets over the weekend but never for the summer.
scorpiolovedeep · 51-55, M
Lovely photo … nostalgic ..
Thanks for sharing the story and the photo 🙏

Is that you? I've been wearing glasses from a young age too. I was ten.
@hunkalove Yep, got my first pair at age eight. I was about nine or ten here, I think.
BeJeweled · 61-69, F
Adorable pic of you and the rabbit.
Reminds me when my childhood best friend had rabbits in her backyard.
Eddiesolds · 61-69, M
I would have loved that. We didnt have that in school

You were cute.
ShaneMckay · 41-45, M
That's a very small cage!
What was it's name?
@ShaneMckay That was what I brought him home in. He had considerably more room in the backyard and in an area downstairs. His name was Pier.
ShaneMckay · 41-45, M
@bijouxbroussard I had a relative named Pierre!
@ShaneMckay I have a cousin named Pierre. But one of our teachers had named the rabbit Pier, and I remember she pronounced it "Peer".
