The school let us take care of animals during break, and a select few (with parental permission and supervision) were allowed to foster an animal during summer vacation. This was when I brought a rabbit home for the summer, and the school gave him to me, to keep.

When I was six and my sister was five we were given rabbits for Easter. They were in a cage behind the garage. One day they vanished. That Sunday we were having dinner at my grandmother's house. I asked if I could have the wishbone. My grandmother said it wasn't chicken, it was rabbit. I got up and went out the backdoor and threw up. They were making me eat my pet!
