I couldn’t imagine not living on a farm

the only thing I ever wanted as a kid was to live in a giant city, or a really rich suburban area, surrounded by people, just like in the movies. But then I got older and realized how crazy it is that some people have never pet a cow, or a baby goat, how some people don’t have yards full of tons of random birds, or that some people don’t just wake up to sound of mourning doves cooing, like some people really don’t have yards full of chipmunks and bunnies, or deer, and that is so weird to me, some people actually go to petting zoos and don’t just have them in a pasture behind their house?? I never thought I’d be happy to be living in a house that’s over 100 years old with animals everywhere, but you really don’t ever get lonely when you have animals to spend time with all the time every single day.

[center]There's a certain charm in all things country. Old timbers, rich with tales of bygone days.
The creak and squeak of floorboards, drawn and lain by hand.
The smell of kerosene heaters on cold mornings; fresh cow's milk in a pantry.
Transom windows, floors with stove pipes, plumbing that rattles and hums.

Sunbeams bent through 100 year plate glass, whose panes have long since bowed.
Peace of crickets, and beasts of the field, among whom you're never alone.

Once, I walked a city. Roamed its restless streets and byways; called them my own.
But in the fields and meadows found a comfort and fellowship, I'd never known.

@SethGreene531 That was poetic. I liked it. Totally saving this for city slickers when they ask why i don't like the city.
@ShadowWolf LOL thank you much, happy you could relate!

I could never live in the city, or a densely populated suburbs close to a city. The noise, crime, traffic, and type of people (usually more fast paced and more aggressive), are just not my style.

The country is my happy place. The small towns. The farms. Visiting a local farmer for eggs, corn, pumpkins etc. Going to a rustic diner. Seeing tractors rolling down the road. Seeing old antique cars on the lawn, or an old pickup truck with patina working a field. Taking a walk, hiking, and camping in the wide open. Quiet and peaceful, with only the sounds of nature, especially at night. Maybe also the crackle of a fire.

City slickers can have the city. I'll take the country anyday.

I lived on a farm til I was 16. You're right, you're never lonely with animals around 🤗

Farms have their charm, clean air, best sleep you'll ever get, plenty of hard work to spend energy and everything smells like manure.

If you’re raised on the land it becomes a part of you forever

You are living your best life!
Country life is indeed the best.

Best part about it. All that land to yourself. Land and housing are super expensive. We just lost dozens and dozens of acres cause my stupid aunt sold it off. Now we only have the immediate plot of land we live on

I don’t have neighbors for miles around my house, all the fields are owned by my family which we use for hay for the cattle, they even have their own pond, it’s so insanely peaceful I wouldn’t want it any other way @JestAJester

My dream is to live on a small farm with animals 🙂 I would buy one if I won the lottery. I don't think I'd want a big commercial farm though, just a tiny place.
Bflyboo14 · 22-25, F
@Scarfface I wouldn’t want a big commercial farm either tbh, it ruins the idea of a farm to me
Scarfface · 46-50, M
@Bflyboo14 I agree, I would just like a little self contained farm, maybe sell a bit of produce etc.
