Oh These Parakeets….Sit Down to Dinner & They See Me Eating Salad & Broccoli…

The chirping started…Boo-Boo was saying “Thank you. Right?” Over & Over, Ike piped up “Thanksgiving”….I told Boo-Boo “Baby I gave you fresh greens this morning.”…..
And he tells me “I want it again”. I don’t know where he is picking this up and how he knows it’s the appropriate answer.

Boo Boo is a fabulously intelligent little bird...and Ike is not far behind!

@4meAndyou Ike usually has manners but he was the one that started that squawking and flapping his wings so much till I talked to them to stop that. Now when he doesn’t get his way he turn around and faces the other way so he doesn’t have to watch us eat, probably pouting at the same time.

@cherokeepatti I would imagine it is hard for a little bird to watch you eat when he REALLY wants some...😢. 🤣 JK! He is not getting spoiled and he WANTS to be spoiled.

@4meAndyou They still have greens hanging in their cage but they got wilted because they didn’t finish them. I think the more I do for them the more demanding they will get.

@cherokeepatti True. But don't forget the wonderful relationship you have with them. They TALK to you because you have been sensitive to their demands.

@4meAndyou I answer their questions and show them stuff too. I figure they are like young children and they love to learn too.

@cherokeepatti And like young children, they always ask for stuff from the "grocery store!" 🤣

@4meAndyou I’m surprised they don’t say “What’d you buy me?” when I walk inside the door after going shopping. They will sometimes ask “What do we have?” When we are about to eat dinner.

@cherokeepatti They are absolutely adorable. I just about die with love for them whenever I hear your stories! 🤣

@4meAndyou We had a parakeets a couple of times when I was growing up and I had 2 for my daughter. None of them talked and said so many funny things as the ones I’ve had for the past 17 years or so. I bought 4 in a tall cage at a yard sale and had them saying “Par-a-keet” within 2 days. And many other words after that. I figured the woman that sold them bought them and neglected them. Each was a different color and she probably didn’t know how much work they were. One couple had 2 babies and one of them, Baby, was a real live wire…had a smarty mouth and he would show us how smart he was by saying things when the opportunity was right, such a little sass sometimes. Then when the adult birds started dying off I got 2 more from a lady who was selling them because her granddaughter wouldn’t take care of them, they were smart birds too. And then 2 more given to me by a neighbor, I still have one of them. Bought Kiwi to be a mate to one of the males and she had 22 babies in just a few months, still have 3 of the babies, Kiwi & Ike (the oldest one). All of these last ones are very good at picking up phrases, words and questions. The females are harder to understand but Kiwi will repeat things over and over till I understand what she is saying like when she rats out the boy for making muffins in my kitchen.

@cherokeepatti She is adorable, too! Little tattle tale that she is...🤣. I think your baby birds might be learning from the adult birds! And your adult birds are very smart!

@4meAndyou when the babies learn from the adult birds they don’t speak the words very clearly and then I have to talk to them and teach them to speak better, I’ve noticed that.
4meAndyou · F
@cherokeepatti They "baby talk" first, just like human babies!
