Why do people have fetishes?

I honestly wonder why I like the things I do. It seems weird to me, I didn't choose to get turned on by being tied up or by seeing attractive women wearing overalls. I've felt that way for as long as I can remember, with absolutely no reason why lol

I think it's a kind of childhood trauma, if we're talking about "real" fetishes. Mine started when I was a child, despite not having sexual feelings then. When I began experiencing sexual feelings, it became sexual too. A fetish is an obsession which gives the person pleasure, satisfaction, and often also feelings of safety and familiarity. I think nowadays many people confuse fetishes with regular kinks.
@Saage That's what I believe too.

I think that for me it's the result of trauma. But some argue that there's already a predisposition for it and people who later develop a fetish are born neurodivergent in some way. I wonder if anybody actually does any real solid research on it.
I am not sure that this is true for you, but many people are turned on by whatever their early sexual experiences, or thoughts, consisted of.

@Journaling4Me I'm sure it happens that way sometimes. But I have a few doubts about that. I feel like it doesn't fully explain things. Most people I know, including me did develop our fetishes early, but quite a few people I know can't point to an experience they've had that would catalyze "fetishization" of their particular sexualzed object. Anyway, I don't mean to be a contrarian. I know for a fact that experiences and patterns of thought can result in fetishes. But I don't think that explains the whole phenomenon.

For me, saw stuff.
My trauma turned into kinks. I don't know why. The brain is fuckin weird when it comes to dealing with trauma.

You can see no reasons 'cause there are no reasons
What reasons do you need to be shown?
Probably because they have no real hobbies

Curiosity it usually starts with or even boredom
