Please dont lump all Americans as wanting any of this. Its only the current Pumpkin Trumpy administration that wants this. I feel like were de-evolving. We're only isolating the U.S. from the world and i dont see any productive outcome from it.

@PHlover19701 You have my honest sympathies but you, the people and the financial institutions have to do something about it.

@carpediem You cant see the forest for the tree. Step back and look at the bigger picture.

@PHlover19701 That's exactly what I'm doing. Get manufacturing back into the US. I suggest you give it a try.

@HeidiA You're correct on Detroit. Tariffs imposed by other countries without reciprocal tariffs from the US caused cars to be manufactured outside the US. These new tariffs will remedy that. Detroit will once again be on a solid growth path with new investment in the industry.
Ad for your not caring about wars, be careful what you're blathering. Without US intervention you and rest of Europe would be speaking German right now. As far as I am concerned, I'd cut off military aid to Europe in 2 seconds. Lets see what that looks like. Don't come by asking for help to save your collective butts again unless you're bringing cash.

@carpediem The root of the reason for vehicles being manufactured outside the country was not due to no reciprcol tariffs....it's due to corporations prioritizing profit over everything else. The bottom line...cheaper parts...cheaper labor drove corporations to move manf out of the U.S. American workers want higher wages, paid time off, full benefits, etc. All those things drive up the cost and affect the profit. So corporations went outside the U.S. to not have to incur those expenses. Even if more vehicles are completely made 100% in the U.S. (steel, aluminum, all components of seats, electronics, engines, lights, etc..) the cost will still sky rocket because American workers want higher wages and all those benefits. Not saying they should not have them....but corporations dont want to incur those expenses. If they need to...they will pass those expenses to the American public which means much higher prices. Much higher prices means fewer sales within the U.S. Tariffs by other countries mean other countries wont buy them either. An isolated island is being created. Other countries will simply partner up with each other ...further squeezing out the U.S. from doing business with them.....back to that isolated island no one wants to visit or do business with.

@PHlover19701 OMG... any company is going to maximize profits. The "corporate greed" claim is leftist blather. Providing the avenue to do so by lopsided tariffs is unfair. Another driver has been US corporate tax rates. We're not too bad now after Trump's first term, but Democrats raise them every chance they get. That drives companies offshore faster than anything.
You may want to focus on cheap labor as the main driver and I'm not a union supporter by any means. And there is no doubt Asian workers are cheaper. US workers, like European workers, have all sorts of benefits, safety rules, etc that companies need to deal with. But that make it ok to bypass all that and have cheap labor build everything? No it does not.
The tariffs will not raise prices in the US. What they will do is drive more product to be manufactured in the US. That brings back our manufacturing industry and creates jobs. Dealing with unions is a different issue.

@carpediem You're clearly not a corporate BoD. Profit is not left nor right. It's business 101. It's what pays your wage, a majority of your insurance premiums, your paid time off, new equipment for a company...it's maint, the electricity the company uses, etc... Did you know...the taxes you pay in your paycheck...a company has to match and pay to the feds? That also comes from the profit. It's simply a requirement for any company to remain in business. You must be getting business advice from someone that had a lot of bankrupt companies. I bet that person would even send a casino into bankruptcy...could you imagine that one?! Crazy talk.
My advice:
1) Educate yourself using impartial sources for your political information. Dont use left or right resources. Sheep blindly follow without taking any action except to eat whats in front of them. Don't be a sheep.
2) Educate yourself in Business 101, in the Japanese business model, and in Macroeconomics.
This will be my last response to this thread. This started off with my request to not lump All Americans in as being of the same mindset. Point proven. Also, I just dont have much time for the maga's. Franky, they just arent worth much of my time. Life is short.
To the rest of the world:
Things are starting to happen to correct the issue in which we find ourselves. Hopefully, the momentum and pressure will build and spark permanent, positive, and productive change. Try and be patient with us (as difficult as that may be right now). Lies were told (repeatedly) and we apparently have an abundance of naive voters here.
You can help by clicking like, love, etc on this post and show the maga's they are the minority.

@PHlover19701 I own and operate three small companies with revenue in excess of $31,000,000 per year. Not very large, but I am engaged in the economic fabric. I know a little about paying taxes LOL. I'm guessing by your ignorant response you do not. The amount a company pays in federal employment tax is absolutely a cost of labor. It does not come out of company profit. Profit is realized after costs are accounted for and that includes employment taxes. They are a hard cost when someone employs labor.
Do you know what profit is?
