Why are airport staff in the US so rude?

I don’t understand why the airport staff in the US working in immigration and security so rude and strict. One guy shouted at me just because I used a tray to put my phone and wallet for security screening rather than placing it on bag at LA airport. Everywhere else in the world people are really nice and helpful.

Please allow the entire REST of the population of the United States to apologize for LA. There's simply no excuse for them...that's why the rest of California is trying to secede.

@4meAndyou The employees at L.A. were very decent compared to what I have experienced in JFK and Newark Airports.
