Why are airport staff in the US so rude?

I don’t understand why the airport staff in the US working in immigration and security so rude and strict. One guy shouted at me just because I used a tray to put my phone and wallet for security screening rather than placing it on bag at LA airport. Everywhere else in the world people are really nice and helpful.

I don't tolerate rude people very much, but I always have the utmost patience and respect for airport staff. Keep in mind that their jobs tend to be incredibly stressful. My job can be pretty damn stressful too, so I know what it's like all too well. Before long, I'm finding myself not being the most friendly individual when I'm under a lot of stress. Not that it makes it okay, of course. But so long as they're not being overtly rude by being abusive, I think it's fair to just have a little patience with them. Many of them are doing their best and just trying get through a hectic day.

@Ducky I understand its a stressful job but even when I concede or show some patience they still be rude. I would like to know why this is the case? Is it because of culture or just certain individuals like that?

@Philasefer From my experience of working under intense stress, it can weigh down on you so much that you just stop giving a damn about being friendly and become solely focused on doing your job, with the other people you have to deal with becoming obstacles in your way. I’m not saying it excuses the rudeness, I’m just saying that one ought to put themselves in their shoes and understand how difficult their job is and just have a little empathy in turn.
