Law of Attraction realities

Intro: I really don't care what others believe on this topic. Opinions don't factor into my stance here.

I've been listening to a lot of podcasts that take on the self help/law of attraction pseudoscience and how it is just all bunk.

A bit of personal history - I started into the law of attraction road when I was around 12. I started with reading "The Power of Positive Thinking" by Normal Vincent Peale. Yes, at 12, I read that tome. I loved it. I loved everything behind it. It brought me some hope and control to my life. I even did many of the things he said to do, like a vision board, a list of intentions, and I even dabbled with affirmations, but honestly, that part just feels weird to me. I just can't get into that. That of course doesn't stop me from having the I Am app that gives me new affirmations every hour to read. I just don't make my own or say them every day. Boring and kinda fruitless.

I love the idea that The Universe hates a lie and a void and will do what it can to make those "lies" a reality and fill a void. I learned by the time I was 20 to never call out sick using the excuse my car broke down because every time I did that, I would have to take more day off work for expensive car repairs. After that, I also never used the, "my [insert loved one here] died" excuse because no thanks! Not having that guilt on my hands!

Much like magic, I believe your intentions have power. You give them energy in their creation and you have the ability to make them a reality. The world can be yours, but there are caveats.

Much like the phrase, "god helps those who help themselves" (which is 100% bullshit. You helped yourself. Quit giving god credit for your hard work. He doesn't deserve it for just sitting there being lazy.), intentions become reality when you do the work. Unlike the prosperity churches that teach, "if you pray really hard, and believe, it will happen", that isn't how life works. Pray in one hand and shit in the other and see which one produces results.

Things don't happen in a void. If you don't do the work, you don't get what you are hoping for. You can have all the intentions of getting a new job, but if you never apply for one, you won't be getting one. You can have all the intentions to make $3,000 a month, but unless you have a plan on how to get that money, it isn't just going to appear.

The point is, you have to show sincerity in your intentions. You have to start the ball rolling. You can't just create and wait. The Universe isn't a GrubHub of Desires. You can't just place an order and it shows up.

So any law of attraction person telling you all you have to do is want hard enough and visualize hard enough to get what you want and if it doesn't appear, you obviously didn't really want it is a shitty person. They are a grifter. A scammer.

A true law of attraction coach will help you create an intention and a working plan to achieve that intention. They are going to support you and help keep you focused. Not blame you for their not taking the ride with you and not having it come true.

That is the law of attraction I learned over 35 years ago. Create an intention. Create a plan to manifest that intention. Continue focusing on the intention and the steps to get there. Don't get frustrated. Just continue with the path. If that intention desire changes, that's okay too! It's your life. You bring into it what you really want and need through your actions.

Stop wishing. Start doing!

I was just talking to someone about this the other day. Stop hoping, wishing and dreaming and start doing... Most people don't get it at all

@ScreamingFox Rhe problem is that law of attraction has become a multimillion dollar grift. Most people "teaching" it only talk about the good things that have happened, but nothing about how to actually perform it.

I listened to a podcast a year or so ago by a British woman who constantly talked about how LOA got her a husband, a kid, a house, etc, basically by saying, "I just kept focusing on it and it all happened". That's impossible. You have to work at relationships (btw, her marriage ended in amicable divorce). Immaculate conception hasn't happened in at least 2000 years. You don't just suddenly own a home. These things don't just happen. (Except maybe the last one under certain circumstances)

You have to actually do things to get those things. You have to get out and meet people, spend time and attention to have a relationship. You have to do the activity of procreation to have a baby. You have to get the money, go house hunting and hope your offer is accepted to get a home.

So after about a month and a half of listening to her just saying the same three things she got over and over again, and no actual meaningful content, I stopped listening. Why listen? There was nothing helpful there.

If you aren't willing to do the work, you just have a dream. And dreams don't exist in the real world.

@ScreamingFox I'm totally on board with action rather than talk or hope

@FoxyQueen Even when you take action and go for some things they still can't happen...

It's all a great deal out of our control, and I think people cling to easy solutions even if it's unrealistic. I read a book awhile ago about radical acceptance. I read a lot too lol and I like the different perspectives and pulling from them what resonates with me.

But we live in a time of instant gratification and photoshop and AI and instantaneous everything. On the flip side you can grind for years and never get ahead. So I'm with you, it's all about adjusting and readjusting and continuing to act.

I still pray, as a "pagan" I still believe in "more" and I have experienced things that prove to me there is more. But for the most part, being clever and going for my dreams is what has made my life rich with experience and promises for the future 🖤

@Ferric67 I have always had an issue with the word hope. I get it. We all have hopes and dreams. But I'd never waste my energy on something I wasn't willing to put into action. And even if it can't be so, letting go of it is no loss.

@ScreamingFox it really does suck that we want everything yesterday. This idea has really gotten out of hand and created so much unhappiness and dissatisfaction, as well as hate, as we hate those who we perceive are getting something we aren't, when that isn't the point at all. The point is to recognize that you steer your own life. You control where it goes. You may not be able to control outside forces that may impact your trajectory, but you still hold the wheel.

We are way too willing to give up our personal control of our lives and let something or someone else control it for us. I don't think one truly lives till they realize they had the ability to navigate their life by themselves. It is one of the great gifts being single has given me. To see all that I have done, on my own.

One of my favorite quotes is:

You don't have to have all the answers or solutions, but you absolutely need a plan.
