Why does looks matter more than personality?

Why does everyone only care about looks nowadays?
What happened to wanting to get to know a person based off their personality?

As @Strongtea said, everyone wants both. When they are ok with your looks, then they will want to know what type of person you are. So, similar level of good looking person are expected to settle with each other.
