I Do Not Fit Into Stereotypes

My family and friends say that I act white, and obviously just by looking at my profile picture I'm far from being so. They say I act white because I don't listen to rap music, I'm quiet, the clothes I wear from HotTopic looks like it belongs to a white girl, how I hate watermelon and collard greens and grapes, etc etc. Even my dad says I don't SOUND black, what does that even mean? One of my friends say that I don't like being black. If that were true I'd do something stupid like bleach my skin, wear blue eye contacts and stuff like that, but it's not true at all, I'm just being myself. I find it amusing but still I just don't know how to respond to them every time they mention it. It's weird. Tbh though, because of this I don't get along with most black people. Not because I don't like them but because I don't have much in common with them at all, and they look at me weird every time I walk past them, it makes me feel uncomfortable :$ I do accept it though, because in my opinion this just proves that stereotypes are bs. How would you feel about this?

What's wrong with acting white? How does one act white anyway? What year is this 1921 to have such stupid ideas like "acting white" or "acting black"? I blame orange is the new black!

Sounds to me like you have decided to be your own person and not let social stereotypes rule your life. I say great.

Congratulations!!

You are being you. It takes courage to be different from your peers. Don't ever change. Stay strong and be proud that you aren't afraid to admit that you don't like something just because you're expected to.

I hate pizza. You have no idea how many people tell me to get over myself. And that's just pizza, for goodness sake. What you're doing is much bigger and braver than pizza.

SoulAsylum. I wouldn't say racist, but perhaps there's some jealousy. I'd be willing to bet there are others in her peer group, and maybe her family too, who have likes that don't fit the stereotype, but they don't have the courage to step outside their comfort zone and be who they wish they could be.

Sweets it happens all the time I was the "white sheep" of the family. Fuck it. Do what you feel is right for you. You don't fit into the ghetto stereotype and it throws them off. I have thousands of sarcastic comments if you need them.

Why should someone be forced to like something just because others in that race do?

Serenitree,
If this was a white person posting the question people would say "Your family and friends are racist"

Anyways not looking to get into a argument or debate.
Serenitree · F
Maybe they would,,but I am not them. I don't see it as a racist thing. Many white teens dress and act like the black kids, but nobody seems to think anything of it. Maybe that's because of where I live, but I don't know. I just don't see it as racist.

@serenitree thank you and if I were joking I'd call you weird for not liking pizza but in all seriousness that's not a bad thing just because it seems as if everyone likes it.
wintziee · F
@xxladyjadedxx I'd love to see those sarcastic comments, and thank you, I'm not changing for anyone
SoulAsylum · 31-35, M
They're just being hateful/racist. Ignore it do whatever makes you happy.
Sadwithasmile · 22-25, M
Why do u give a shit? (Pardon my French)
wintziee · F
I agree with serenitree, I see that happening a lot. And SoulAsylum is right too, many people would think something is racist based on different people. And I wouldn't think anyone in my family is jealous but then again I don't really know nor can I tell.
wintziee · F
honestly...I don't know, I guess it's a habit of mine to kinda care , and it's okay.
wintziee · F
@sadwithasmile I wish I knew the answer to that, I'm trying to figure it out myself
