People who joke about being abused

I don't understand. Why and How is this funny? Like how they got abused, but making jokes about it.
Now I think they are lying. It is like they are on the abuser's side.

For some it’s “whistling in the graveyard"—a coping mechanism to feel less victimized. But others who need to joke about such a painful and dehumanizing experience, haven’t come to terms and are in denial.
