At my work there is a bloke there who told us that when he was 15, he used to help out an friend of a friend...18 years years older than him. He used to employ the kid like Thurs - Sat nights helping him with removals. The kid didn't realise it but he was helping the guy rob places! As the kid had a sweet tooth he used to pay the kid one...mars bar for each place they "moved".
The guy told him not to tall anyone about the removals as he said other kids would be jealous of the kid and steal his job!
Would you have realised back then what was going on?
Told a police officer that caught the guy that broke into ours and other cars - idiot came back and rested outside the building that evening. Cop grabbed him and he had warrants everywhere. But I told the officer that some people just aren’t smart enough to be a crook
Well im not sure id have twogged straight away but i certainly wouldnt have done for it mars bar! Once i saw how he was getting in, it would have rung home what he was up to.
@LadyBronte Yep, he didn't get it 30 years later when he met the guy and laughed about his record of 4 mars bars...in one night! Turns out he now works as a security guard. The guy was really interested when he told him that! Asked if he worked alone and what sites he was guarding...the guy told him everything, even sent him directions...
@SarithBorn Yeah, guess, the kid even stole a gold chain from one of the properties. The guy found out about it and told him off! He said to the kid how much money did you get for your 15th birthday, the kid told him £60. The guy said he'd spoken to couple who owned the house where the kid took the chain from. They said it was worth £300 but that if he gave them £70 they would be happy. The kid was going to go round with the money but the guy said he'd save him the trip, just give it to him and he'd take care of it for him.
Kinda hard to believe that this happened at all. And even if it did--just for a Mars bar! And other kids would be envious for a Mars Bar! Just doesn't seem to hold together.
@Wol62 I mean, I never got people like that tricking me into helping them steal stuff, but I fell for every "gotcha" joke ever conceived of on the playground.
@LordShadowfire Yeah, totallt get that. But that kid even stole a gold chain from one of the houses he thought he was helping with removals. The guy who was using him found out and was like "kid you are in a lot of trouble cause the owners are compliaing, but I can smooth it over" he asked the kid how much money he got for his 15 birthday, the kid told him £60...the guy said if he gave him £70 that couple would sell it to him! As the chain was worth £300. the kid though he was getting a good deal and staying out of trouble, so he handed over the £70. Turned out the thing was really only worth £15 back then!
