Why do so so many people shy away at the idea of kinks and BDSM?

Is it not healthy to explore your preferences? Or seek an outlet for trauma?

Simply because it's not their thing. It doesn't arouse them so they have no reason to even try it.
As for those who find it attractive, I think it has a lot to do with trust issues.
