Why do so so many people shy away at the idea of kinks and BDSM?

Is it not healthy to explore your preferences? Or seek an outlet for trauma?

It seemed fine until you said an outlet for trauma. That needs to be resolved in a healthy way. Not enabled in less than safe environments.

@Reject kink was actually suggested to me by a counselor(PhD) and I've since run into 2 who work in the field and support using king for motivation and trauma. Only after you've gone through counseling and continue to do so.

@Rosie95 Well if you’re going through counseling that should be okay. Hopefully. They have mixed opinions on the matter. Some support it, some don’t, but either way getting help for it is a good thing.

@Reject sometimes going through a trigger in a controlled environment with an experienced top or bottom can be an amazing help. Ie. I used to self harm. Now impact play is my outlet for that. The desire is met in a safe controlled environment by very experienced individuals. Whom also hold me accountable to not do that again. People who feel like they have depression because of a lack of control in daily lives can become tops and have an amazing safe space to have some control. This prevents spiraling. One of the leaders in my community is a phycologist and speaks on this regularly. Kink isn't a solution to a trauma but is a good additive to a counseling regimen

@Rosie95 Can be. I’ve had a few therapists, and spoken with many mental health experts of different kinds with my background in mental hospitals. Sex and trauma don’t usually go well together because they exacerbate one another without actually addressing the issue. Trauma is resolved through personal growth and sex can stunt that dramatically if not done right. So it’s a big risk they didn’t condone, but that doesn’t mean it can’t work. Just be careful with it.

@Reject yes yes yes this. Having a top priority bottom with phycology experience who knows how to play the part safely and support through aftercare is insanely important!!!
