Why do so so many people shy away at the idea of kinks and BDSM?

Is it not healthy to explore your preferences? Or seek an outlet for trauma?

Some kink and fetish stuff is deliberately scary or off-putting, so some people are scared and put off.
On the other hand some people are afraid of their own desires and so they have mixed feelings about those who are exploring their own more freely.
