When people tell others to just "ignore" verbal abuse
I mean, I know they mean well ... I guess...
But what I don't understand is that if someone were to tell me to just ignore it and not worry about it,
And if I were to suddenly start verbally abusing them,
Pretty sure it would have an impact on them and they would give a pretty defensive reaction,
For example,
Imagine a pre school teacher telling a kid: "sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me"
And the kid responds with: "what would you know you old hag? You're just a fat old piece of dried out elephant skin that hasn't been on a date since the 1800s"
Yeah, pretty sure that kid would get sent to the principals office, or scolded, etc, or something
