You need to inform him that you do NOT say "yall", which is meaningless, but "y'all", a contracted form of "you all", which is the American South's way of being able to break the inability to distinguish "you" (second person singular) from "you" (second person plural).
The use of "you all"/ "y'all" makes clear that the speaker is addressing everyone in a group, not merely a single individual.

@SomeMichGuy it is also gender neutral in the north, often wait staff at restaurants use the term you guys which is not exactly an endearing one either b

@samueltyler2 Perhaps the people saying "you guys" are the same who use male terms indiscriminately ("dude" said to a woman comes to mind), or perhaps they are aware of the law of masculine dominance in grammar (if one of a group is a male, you use the masculine plural form in some/many? languages).
But likely they are just using dialect to which they've become accustomed.
