I am sorry this is going on. It sounds as if you have done everything right. To be fair, they will have some protocols to go through, but please make sure they keep moving it forward. Is it a small company or a large company? If there's a big corporate parent of some kind, one approach is to talk directly with someone in that parent company's HR department. They're probably gonna care a lot about something like this and may be less concerned with "protecting" the other party.
