Why is it so hard to get rid of this 20 some year old toaster?

Its old and dirty and the cord gets warm when its on and it doesnt work anymore at all anyway but maybe I can fix it. I dont have the skills to fix it but if I learn about electrical and toasters just maybe. Or maybe its a euphemism for something else that served its purpose the last 20 years but is broken and would be easily replaced with something new that works and wont potentially burn the house down.

If the cord gets warm and the heat ribbon doesn't get red it's a fire waiting to happen. That puppy is literally toast 🤣.

What's the deal the one on the right looks fine.

@available4 actually the new one was $39 but its still hard to let go of something that has been around for so long.
