@Convivial I think "dumb" people might not always be great at holding intellectual conversation, but can be wonderfully empathetic or just a hoot to be around. "Intelligent" people can be good at these things as well, but sometimes they are less sensitive to the feelings of others. They can be arrogant and rude without realising it. It's just a matter of perspective. Everyone has something interesting to say.
