What makes a grown man so afraid of love and always running away from yours?

Could be a number of things. One that I’ve had experience with in the past is that he felt he didn’t deserve love and used running away as a way to prove that to himself. There’s no change coming in that scenario either, not unless he’s willing to change the narrative which takes emotional and mental strength that very few have after years of embracing that coping mechanism.
