@RainDropsandRoses If you have a child at 18, the maths suggests that you would have been underage when you conceived (at least in some countries)... and minors cannot consent - that's part of the thinking process that I have seen from interacting with some of the dodgy people that you are talking about.

@RainDropsandRoses It is in the UK... In the US, I believe that it is 18 - which will place you as a minor there and, thus make you attractive to pedophiles who like to talk about underage sex.

@HootyTheNightOwl the US ranges from 16 to 18 based on state with special laws about being 18 regarding telecommunications. So two people can live in states with age of consent at 16 and be legal. But if they arrange online to meet with the intention of sex then the 18 rule kicks in no matter what the state law is.

@ViciDraco I wish they’d just make it 18 across the board, with some special provisions if the age difference is less than four years or something.

@JustGoneNow I could definitely get behind that. Really need to drag some countries out of the dark ages on it though. There are some sickeningly low ages of consent out there. And the worst have no age but you have to be married so you get people not only abusing children but locking them into lifelong decisions.
