I Am Willing to Apologize When I Have Wronged

Apologising when I have done wrong is something I'm not particularly good at. I'm going through a turbulent time at the moment and having to learn how to accept the blame for the things I've done wrong. Hopefully it will make me a better person!

Through AA I learned an interesting thing about owning up to the behaviors you own. They don't weigh nearly as heavy on you.

I think a very real part of guilt is a sub-category I think of as Camouflage. We work hard to keep our transgressions secret, especially from those we want to love and respect us. Because we hide guilty secrets we cannot act freely and honestly because just under the surface we can hear that faint chant..."If they/he/she ever found out..."

Good for you. I hope you sleep more peacefully and stand a little taller.

@Mamapolo2016 thank you

@Mamapolo2016 I used to go to AA and open meetings years ago.
@Peaches I had previously considered AA a cult, because, I now realize, I knew I needed it.

After a month or so, I became and remain convinced AA should be a required course beginning in middle school. Not just because of the drunk thing, although that too, but because it teaches you to figure out WHY you do the things you do, and once that is understood, making corrections for a better, more self-aware life becomes far easier.

Nearly all of the most dangerous things in the lives of the young are introduced and explained to them by people just as young and ill-informed.

@Mamapolo2016 Yes, it's a great self help group. The 12 steps can be implemented in our daily lives no matter who we are. ⭐️
@Peaches Yes. I was amazed by my first reading of the Big Book - subsequent readings have intensified that.

Not as a religious revelation, but it makes SOOOOO much sense. When you're sober.

@Mamapolo2016 👍🏼Yes it does! You just have to be careful where you go, some of it is "cult like" when they demean a person for "slipping." I've been to some that won't let you speak unless you have had so many years clean and sober?! Some undermine the true message and discourage members. That truly is sad.
@Peaches That is sad. Like not wanting sinners in church.

I have not had that experience. At the dozen or so different places I've attended meetings - always welcoming, affirming, available but not pushy. Still, humans will be human.

@Mamapolo2016 It's like this in the smaller cities unfortunately.
@Peaches Big fish in little ponds. Plus alcoholic behaviors without alcohol.

@Mamapolo2016 Some of them were called "AA Guru's" and "dry drunks." It got rough at times, haha!😯😁
@Peaches Glad you stuck it out. Dry drunk = rectum with no excuse
