I asked a homeless guy what he wanted from the grocery store today

He was sitting by a bush with his dog. He said chicken, and that he would share it with the dog. So I got him cans of dog food, rotisserie chicken, potato salad, iced tea, chocolate cake and some snack pack things sort of like lunchables. I haven't don't that in a while and it felt good. Yeah, he looked like he would have stabbed me for 50$. But still. He had a swollen, blistering leg, and he's out there on the street with probably 0$. I've been hungry and broke before, and it sucks. It just felt nice to do. And now I want all of SW to know about it! 🌞

An act of kindness from one heart to another is never misplaced. A gift carries no conditions and no strings.

My daughter taught me that. I spoke to her about fears that when I give money or food, it’s enabling.

She said, “Once you give a gift, it no longer belongs to you. It belongs to the recipient and how they choose to use it has nothing to do with you.”
Kudos for being nice to people in need.
The problem with doing this is that the guy learns he doesn't need to work for a living, he can just hang out at certain places and look a certain way and people will feed him, give him money, give him clothes and drugs and other things.
It seems like it helps the guy, but really it just teaches him to be lazy.
The dog on the other hand is a dependant. If this guy cannot support the dog, then that is sad.. for the dog.

@MisterBander It can be extremely difficult for a homeless person to find work.
@Darksideinthenight2 There is some truth to this. Reminds me of the local homeless guy that hung out in front of superstore. Everyone talked about how good he was and how they always gave him something when they left the store. He had quite the following, until the police showed up one day and took him away. He was a crack addict who broke into cars and houses at night, and during the day he put on his nice face and took free food.
Everyone was shocked.. he seemed so nice, he would tell me stories of how he grew up and how he got like this and bla bla.. all made up.

I make a monthly contribution to the local food bank. They provide food to kids, impoverished seniors, homeless, the disabled.
