I wanted to talk about trolls. I may have mentioned them before, I really need to make a list of fae I’ve already covered. 🤔 But the reason is that if you google trolls you get a pretty standard explanation. Big, ugly, turns to stone in sunlight. But that doesn’t really cover all examples in folklore. They actually appear very diverse in appearance and abilities in Scandinavian stories. And the reason is that troll wasn’t originally a species, but a description. Derived from the Old Norse noun trǫll, meaning a giant, demon, fiend, or magical being. So a troll wasn’t a single kind of thing, but something that has taken on paranormal qualities.
