Can humans just stop messing with nature? 🙄

A company called Reflect Orbital just got permission to launch satellites with huge mirrors to provide sunlight on demand 24/7 anywhere in the world.

Concerns range from disturbing the biological clock of humans and wildlife, to crashes with other satellites, and permanent changes to sun hours in some areas if the company loses control of a satellite.

But what are the chances of that, right? After all, their aim is to only launch 50,000 of these devices in an already crowded orbital ring around earth.

Also, does anyone want to bet that naturally occurring sunlight will at some point be marked as unfair competition for sunlight on demand and people will be charged for that as well?

and how would you like to be in the house next door to the jerk that wants daylight at 2 in the morning?

oh how about the companies that want to send nano particles into the atmosphere to block the uv rays to cut down on global warning - I can just see a new ice age
Put a giant magnifying glass in between and we're good to go.
not a fan of the glare of the sun. Im way more of a night owl.
We just can't stop doing weird shit😒

@DancingStarGoddess I couldn't agree more

@DancingStarGoddess This is why we can't have nice things.
@H1raeth exactly!
It'll be a good weapon in warfare, though...
@HootyTheNightOwl that's one of the arguments in favor indeed. Of course, as it's an American company, the USA will restrict access for military uses to itself and its allies though, which is only Israel at this point.
@NerdyPotato The argument goes both ways, though... I mean, if your country is the target, your government is going to want to restore natural order pretty rapidly, I would imagine.

I can see a benefit for let's say super cold areas of the world, but like you noted, messing with mother nature isn't going to have a good outcome.
Not conservatives or centrists; bite me!

This is literally the plan of the bond villain in the last Brosnan film. There’s no way we can fuck this up completely. 🙄

Its called playing GOD and their more to then what they are telling the public and you know it to. Better get your "Tin Foil Hat" ready for battle
TheHammer · M
Oh I'm sure they will find a way to charge people for that .
@TheHammer there's already a system in place for it. If something causes unfair competition, you can tax the cheaper version. It's the most beautiful word in the dictionary according to some: TARIFFS!

@NerdyPotato
Ah but of course!
H1raeth · 41-45, M
It'll be pretty localized if this ever happens. I don't think it will man.
@H1raeth that's their plan. If it's profitible they probably will. Our only hope is that it's a failure.
H1raeth · 41-45, M
@NerdyPotato I fear for the wild life most but it's a very small worry. I think they might experiment with it but never go all out.
@H1raeth let's hope so...
