What would happen to faith (particuallly the book of Genesis in the Bible) if we made Alien Contact?

Would contact with Alien lifeforms topple established religion? Would new religions form around the Aliens? Would current religion be able to survive alongside the new discovery?
BlueVeins · 22-25
I had a religious friend who kinda just figured God wouldn't have made such a big universe if he wasn't gonna populate it with other life.
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@BlueVeins Hey, your friend could be right, who knows. Some divine creator could exist beyond the multiverse. We'd never know. String theory/Parallel Universe Theory/Multiverse Theory have opened up many many possibilities.
Johnson212 · 61-69, M
They will explain it away somehow. We have seen evidence that we are not the first humans in this planet, ie the denesovians and neanderthals but that does not fit into Genesis either.
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@Johnson212 I feel that it's/would be an issue with people who take Genesis literally, rather than a metaphor. These are the same people who deny dinosaurs, and that the earth is 4.5 Billion years old because it doesn't fit Genesis. I'm Catholic, but even I know that Genesis just doesn't make any logical sense...literally speaking. Metaphorically, yes it works.

The bible is a work of fiction. It is not a historically accurate document. It is possibly inspired but otherwise not very useful as it talks in circles. There are much better works out there to contemplate.

My Christian faith would survive cause demons are nothing new and I can not discover them, been around all my life. They are introduced as “aliens” with “science” to us so we become FRIENDS with them and welcome them as our saviors during apocalypse. During cataclysms and erupting volcanos people will look up to aliens for help and rescue and possibly load on their “flying saucers” to escape everything. That is another demonic deception slowly fed and introduced to us over 100 years, enough time to accept it and normalize it.
GJOFJ3 · 61-69, M
I don’t see that as a problem
The Bible refers to God making worlds
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@GJOFJ3 I must have missed that verse.

More importantly, will the aliens have their own god? If so, maybe we can have a "God Off." to see whos' god is best.. I wonder if our god will show up?😷

Aliens are demons. What will happen after contacting demons? Death of faith most likely

See A Case of Conscience, by James Blish.

A Case of Conscience is a science fiction novel by American writer James Blish, first published in 1958. It is the story of a Jesuit who investigates an alien race that has no religion yet has a perfect, innate sense of morality, a situation which conflicts with Catholic teaching.
This is kind of ironic.
The story in Genisis is exceedingly similar to an ancient summerian story of creation. The summerian text mentions the first adam, eden, cain and able , the ark , the flood, Babylon etc.
It aslo mentions gods that come from another planet😏.

So maybe, its already been 'a thing'🤷‍♀️
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@OogieBoogie That's interesting, I didn't know that actually, but I believe it. It would not surprise me if before written human history, we were visited.
@ShadowWolf if ya wanna look it up, search Annunaki (they were the aliens.)
And i think its 'the lost books, (or tablets?) of enki.
Been a while since i looked .

But its a fascinating story that tells (in a nutshell), of powerful, technologically advanced beings that come to earth to mine gold , end up bioengineering humans from a bipedal earth species and part of their own DNA to make a work force .
The 'gods' argue amongst themselves , form alliances, sometimes go to war, nearly obliterate all life on the planet with mass weapons of destruction, disease and of course the flood.

Eventually they realise mankind isnt so bad , so they split earth into regions and each take one. ( this stops most of the arguing). And they decide to teach mankind civilised knowledge like agriculture, writting etc.

But its really quite interesting when one looks at varied ancient cultures and how polytheistic religions have similar gods from south america to iceland and to North africa.
And as these beings were supoosed to have lifespans of thousands of years , its not hard to imagine that they would have been seen to be immortal gods.

I dont know why a movie hasnt been made of this ....its a really cool story .
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@OogieBoogie I'll take a look, thanks! That is very interesting indeed. Sounds like you could make it into a movie!
Probably the same thing that happened for Millenia when explorers, who thought they were the only race in the world, discovered others
DDonde · 31-35, M
What if they're xenomorphs
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@DDonde That would be horrifying lol. If we do establish contact, I am hoping more for cooperation with Aliens such as in Star Wars/Trek.
pancakeslam · 41-45, M
well I already made contact but I have to say there is room inn creation for God, aliens, dinosaurs, and maybe Bigfoot
Lilnonames · F
They would be the gods
ShadowWolf · 31-35, M
@Lilnonames Especially if they are able to make the journey to reach us. That technology would defy our understanding of physics.
