When I was growing up, we would play there. The water was cool, and there were big rocks to climb on… and lie on to dry. These hot August days have me thinking about trying that again.
I'm not a good swimmer but one day found a great place in a river flowing clear over sand, shallow enough to be safe, and slowly enough for me to "swim on the spot", against the flow. Rather as a resting fish does... but they are better at it than me.
I do though live on the coast and there is a pleasant beach of shallow water over sand, only about 15 minutes' walk from home.
@ArishMell the river here isn’t deep at all - you could probably walk across it. I love floating in the Gulf of Mexico off the Florida coast. Tranquil water - easy to float.
@Nelisme A lovely place, then! I don't float very well at all, but naturally am slightly more buoyant in sea-water, where I can sort of swim on my back for short distances. Provided I am not too worried about which direction I am heading in.
@Nelisme there is this concrete slab all most under the bridge we use to play on all the time. We even talked my mom into getting us a sand bucket for like the beach we used it to block the water at time's that was a lot of fun
I wish I had something like that. Growing up we had a creek all of six inches deep and where I live now there are generally going to be gators in the water.
