The new generation prepares to take over

I couldn't face another whole weekend confined indoors with two stir crazy girls. So we ignored the wind and the rain, stuffed the car with old clothes and towels, and headed for the coast.

As we approached the sand we saw a fantastic full rainbow. The girls loved it and rushed off to find their pot of gold 🌈

9yo has recently discovered how fun it is to run in and out of waves fully clothed. Her big sister, who is a strong swimmer, keeps a close eye on her. The corollary of this game is of course a bootful of wet clothes and towels 😭

Later I ran a sprint race on the sand with my 15yo, as we always do at the beach. Yesterday she beat me for the first time. Damn it! She's more flexible than me, she's prettier than me, she knows more than me (as teenagers always do 😉) . . and now she can outrun me. I have clearly outlived my usefulness and must slope away into quiet obscurity.

The 9yo still needs me though. Perhaps that is the answer. Regular adoptions to ensure I do not become obsolete 🙂

Both are meeting their job descriptions. Though it wounds one's pride when the kid beats you in any contest. 😁

@ineedadrink She's worked hard for it. But it gets quite scary. She's already half a foot taller than me. Where will it end? 🤷‍♀

@SunshineGirl How goes the cooking/baking endeavors?

@ineedadrink Our eldest cooked Sunday lunch today, which was terrific. Her little sister would love to "help" but usually ends up with more food on her than on the plates. As we were already fast running out of clean clothes, we found something less messy to do instead 🙂

@ineedadrink I might disagree... It just means as a parent you have fulfilled your role...as Einstein was quoted as saying when asked why he could dream up his thoughts said.... Because I've stood on the shoulders of giants...

@SunshineGirl one of my favourites... It shows great humility 🤗
