My daughter and I arrived at the beach for the last swim of September

Horizontal rain was lashing the car windows and you couldn't see further than 5 metres through the swirling sand. But mustn't lose face among the other ladies in our swim group. We looked grimly at one another and silently changed into our swimsuits. Stepped out of the car and shuffled our way to the usual meeting point.

Halfway there we were intercepted by Claire our group leader, warmly wrapped up in fleece and bobble hat, who informed us that the session was cancelled due to dangerous sea conditions. She was greatly impressed by our resilience and determination though . . should buy us a bit of credit for February when we will be scraping ice off the windows 😊

A couple of days ago you were saying that a damp 15C day was cold! I was out in heels, bare legs, and a miniskirt yesterday and it never got above 13C.

And now you are proposing swimming in the sea in February! In a typical February here you don't just scrape the ice off the windows you might have to dig out the drive as well. Definitely won't catch me swimming in the sea, people drill holes in the ice in the inner fjord to fish.

Isn't it wonderful how different we (that's everyone not just me and you) and the places we live in are.

@ninalanyon We have swum nearly every Sunday morning since June last year. The changing seasons are the worst part and the scene outside made it more difficult than it actually is. On a sunny winter's day with the beach to ourselves there is no better place to be. Some of the others wear wetsuits, which we contemplated but you get colder changing in and out of them than you do just taking the plunge!

@SunshineGirl Makes me shiver just to read about it!

I'm a bit nervous swimming in the sea incase a real shark comes which I know is unlikely but still I prefer a swimming pool! 😂😂😂 But I LOVE doing cartwheels and handstands and other gymnastics moves on the beach and sometimes there are gymnastics bars on the beach that all ages seem to use so I love the beach to practice gymnastics and get my twinkle toes wet in the shallow end of the sea and I also love how the warm sand feels on the soles of my bare feet! 🤗🤗🤗

@MommyLucy We have sharks, but only very little ones who are quite shy 😊 Often we go for a run on the sand afterwards, but not today 🥶

@SunshineGirl Please be careful! 😥😥😥 It would absolutely break my heart if a shark bit you or your precious wife or precious daughter and I'd cry a million tears if you got hurt! 😭😭😭 Swimming pools have no animals with teeth and I'm quite scared of sharp teeth after five year old me was bitten by a big dog and rushed to hospital for stitches in my leg! 😭😭😭

always a depressing time of year when summer ends

Y'all are nutz! There is a reason there is a "swim suit season"! Lol
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@SlaveEt Trouble is, in the UK that lasts about 10 days. So we serious swimmers need to make our own season! 😊

@SunshineGirl
Lol well you are braver than I, that's for sure. I'd find me a nice heated indoor pool and call it good! Lol

I think some of the Russian people swim in the middle of winter.

"A" for effort. A+ for common sense.

Down South here in the US, people swim in the ocean as long as it's warm enough here. But now the chill has set in. We had lows a few nights ago around 37 degrees.
