Had my opinion changed

I used to love the sea, both being on it and being in it. However, about 10 years ago, I stayed in a small fishing village on the north east coast of England. This night, I couldn't sleep so I thought I'd go out for a walk. It was summer and the sea had been calm during the day. However, the tide was in as I was walking around and I could hear it slamming against the harbour wall. As it was the middle of the night, there were no other sounds to distract me from this noise and I found the sound and power of the sea quite intimidating.
I'd rather not be on the water now and prefer to remain a land lubber

Years ago I went to Hat Rin Beach in Thailand where the famous full moon party is held. The first day I went to the beach which is accessed by the street that ends at the waterfront beach. I walked to the right side of the beach and while swimming I noticed that there were a lot of rocks only a couple meters beneath the water. At one point in the day my foot became lodged under a rock and the waves washed over me. It occurred to me how easily one could drown swimming on that side of the beach so I moved over to the left side of the beach that afternoon.

People gather for big parties at night on the beach. Fire dancers and drinking and music. It’s a big party every night there. Many people wade out into the water and swim from the heat of the night and the dancing. My second day at the beach I heard about a girl who had drowned the previous night.

Never swim in water you don’t know well at night. Best to see it in the daytime and know about its depths and the type of ground floor underneath. This has saved me in many places I thought were safe to swim when arriving at night and then furthered investigating the beach by light of day.

I live in the middle of the Europe, therefore far away from any sea. I can't explain why but being near sea could both make me very happy or very depressed. And it hits suddenly. Especially depression, it's a weird feeling of having a hollow chest. Usually the first day of being near the sea. My mother told me that she experiences it too.

I love being near the sea, myself. I'm like 3 blocks away and at night I can hear the waves against the cliffs here. But the sea isn't what it once was. With this algae. Makes you feel sick if you spend too much time near the water.

@Thevy29 - I probs made the right decision to keep out of it then ?

@UKNaturist So far the algae is only effecting us here along the St Vincent Gulf. It's killing the local fishing industry and the local Oyster farms too.

With climate chamge, even living by a lake is dicy.
11 inches of rain in two hours last week in some spots. Helping pump out a crawlspace but its like putting a hole in the lake.
@Tastyfrzz Yes. 🥺

I like hearing the power of the sea, it almost makes me feel as though I'm harboring that power myself. (=

That's what I say. If I was meant to be in the water I would have been born with gills.

Nicely told. 🙂
