Don't you think it's sad that all those Egyptians got drowned in the Red Sea?

Religious teachings say that when the children of Israel saw the drownings they celebrated. According to the traditional, when G-d saw that the people were celebrated God admonished them saying ng, how can you celebrate while my people are dying?..

@Nitedoc you missinterpreted my statement.

@Nitedoc No, I got it. I just threw mine in anyway. Weren't you saying we are ALL God's children? They were celebrating the death of their brethren.

@Nitedoc that is what it meant, yes. Do not rejoice at human deaths, even enemies. You can feel relief, but not joy.

It would be interesting to know what, if anything, really happened since the ancient Hebrew books were not necessarily written with historical truth in mind. They were part of welding a disparate bunch of tribes with mainly Persian roots and religions, into a new, cohesive society.

Also the "Red" Sea made be a mis-interpretation by Mediaeval European editors : "REDE" (Reed) being more likely, and perhaps the marshes between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.

That area has long had its indigenous Arab inhabitants - their life described by Gavin Maxwell in his book A Reed Blown In The Wind - but I don't know if this is still so, since Saddam Hussein tried to drain the marshes.

The Red Sea is very deep so could not have been crossed anywhere except perhaps on shallow beaches at its Northern end, though those might have areas that can trap the unwary.
